Along with states and counties nationwide, Sacramento County is loosening COVID-19 restrictions. They’ve just amended the Public Health Order that is related to coronavirus restrictions, effective at 11:59am Friday, June 12. The amended Health Order supersedes previous orders.

Businesses like bars and wineries, hotels, campgrounds, gyms, pools, family entertainment centers (including zoos, museums, movie theaters, and day camps), and tribal casinos are able to open to the public, provided they have implemented the required health and safety protocols.

Businesses MUST include a policy for face coverings, and provide face coverings to staff when six feet of social distance is not possible.

With that business out of the way, here’s the scoop:

“In spite of recent re-openings, the virus is still here,” said Dr. Peter Beilenson, director of Health Services for Sacramento County. “We have seen an increase in COVID cases and hospitalizations recently, in large part due to social gatherings, and to keep these cases down we need to remember to be sensible while we’re being sociable.”

“Continue to maintain social distancing requirements of six feet or more, practice good hand hygiene, stay home as much as possible and remember that gatherings of people not from the same household inside houses are prohibited.”

According to Sacramento County officials, the best defenses against COVID-19 continue to be staying at home and physical distancing; wearing a face covering wherever possible; washing hands frequently, avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands; and avoiding being around people with COVID-19 symptoms.

I know it’s tempting to jump back out there now that everything’s opening back up. As an extrovert, I’ve had to work really hard to avoid stir craziness, and I’ve grown to love — well, accept — my burgeoning corona quarantine belly. But just because things are opening back up rapidly doesn’t mean I have to be the first one out there — and I won’t be. I’ll be very happy to allow someone else to be the guinea pig for the premature opening up of businesses.

The relaxing of restrictions means just one thing to me: there’s a bed and a ventilator waiting for me if I wind up in the hospital with COVID-19. I plan to do what I can to avoid that.

Why don’t you join me, and…

be careful, wear a face covering, wash your hands, practice social distancing, and keep yourself and your loved ones healthy!
