EXCLUSIVE! Dionne Warwick Talks Whitney Hologram Tour

Just a couple of weeks ago, the estate of Whitney Houston announced plans to launch a hologram tour featuring a live band and dancers, along with a computer-generated hologram of the late singer, “performing” all of her hits.

I’ve already shared what I think about that. “Houston deserves better than a creepy hologram tour” pretty much sums it up.

Whitney’s sister-in-law, estate executor Pat Houston, disagrees.

“Whitney Houston,” “rehearsing” for her upcoming tour.

“A hologram show is all about the imagination and creating a ‘wow factor’ that extends to an incredible experience to enjoy for years to come,” Pat said in a prepared statement.

During my May 2019 interview with Houston’s cousin, the legendary Dionne Warwick, conducted just after plans for the tour were announced, Warwick shared her initial thoughts on the hologram tour.

Brace yourself. Warwick’s thoughts are markedly different from Pat’s.

“I just heard that, and I don’t know anything about it,” Warwick shared of the initial announcement of the upcoming hologram tour. “And I think it’s probably one of the queerest and craziest things to happen. I hope it’s a rumor. I hope it’s not true.”

Sadly, it appears to be very true. An Evening With Whitney Houston: The Whitney Houston Hologram Tour is set to open in Mexico early next year before playing Europe and hitting the US and Canada in the fall of 2020.

I asked Warwick about the notion of preserving Houston’s legacy with the hologram tour.

“Please,” Warwick sighed. “Whitney’s music is her legacy.”

‘Nuff said — and WELL said. I’ve always admired Warwick for her candor, almost as much as for her music, and she didn’t let me down this time around.

Like we’ve done with Rep. Maxine Waters, we may have to start calling Warwick “Auntie Dionne!”
